Some things are extremely unlikely, unusual, and seemingly impossible. Well, improbable.
Every other box in the world is simple - a container that closes. Boxes commonly start flat and are either glued or folded to lock the three dimensional volumes. Perhaps they have flaps that close one end, perhaps two slide together to form a sealed volume. Maybe they are a prism, less likely they are an antiprism, unusually they might be a papier mâché sculpture with a uniquely formed cap.
In the interest of being difficult—I mean different —my efforts were directed for a time toward a tetrahedron formed box of a unique construction. While perhaps not practical overall, this design is built upon a very practical equilateral triangle. While it seems easy enough to simply fold two triangles together the act of attempting the same is rather frustrating. Eventually the idea of leveraging the pockets formed between the layers of one of the triangle forms led to an elegant solution. Folding the points of the one triangle up, and sliding the pocketed sides of a second triangle down, and suddenly an improbable while perhaps imperfect box.
